During the months of April-May, cricket fever is high within the country as its very own franchise cricket league, IPL, is held at full swing. Ten teams play high voltage games across different venues in the country and best cricketers around the globe come under the same roof to fight for the silverware. Hence, these two months are packed with power pack performances and the spectators get to witness some high quality cricket played by the finest players!
Last year’s title was grabbed by Royal Challengers Bangalore and this year too, they look one of the strongest contenders. However, the most successful teams, Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, both with five titles each, look flat as they are on the bottom side of the points table.
Apart from that, like previous years, plenty of records have been shattered, youngsters have made their name, but one thing that has left a significant mark is the sheer dominance of left-handed batsmen in IPL 2026! From 15 year old Vaibhav Sooryanshi to 32 year old Travis Head, lefties have outplayed this tournament!

Vaibhav Sooryvanshi
Age is just a number and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is standing by the statement as he is already smashing the bowlers double his age. He is fearless and has the audacity to smash almost every ball out of the park, no matter who is bowling, Jasprit Bumrah or Josh Hazelwood! We had already seen a glimpse of his talent in last year’s IPL, but this year, after thrashing England in the Under 19 World Cup, the young lad has come even stronger. His technique is quite raw as he depends a lot on his high and powerful back swing. He is not among the most technical sound players, but he knows how to dominate with his strengths! He is young but mature enough to understand the game and that’s why we see him on the driving seat quite often.
Sooryavanshi currently stands at 4th spot in Orange cap chart and has a good chance to grab the title this season. In 10 matches, he has scored 404 runs with one ton and two fifties under his belt. Also, among all the players, his strike rate is second highest, that is, 237.64. With such extraordinary talent, Sooryavanshi might even become the youngest player to represent country, by breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record!
The franchisee, Rajasthan Royals, have played a massive role in grooming this young talent. Last year, they seemed a bit sceptical in introducing the boy to big league cricket. But after his convincing performance in seven games, they backed him this season and now everyone is witnessing the show of this young sensation.

Abhishek sharma
Abhishek Sharma needs no introduction as he has been a star for Sunrisers Hyderabad for years now! He is the lead contender of Orange cap and has played some extraordinary knocks so far. Carrying the momentum from the finals of 2026 T20 World Cup, Sharma has been enjoying the purple patch. He started with a few low scores but took no time in changing the gears. His father has been a huge influence in this career as Senior Sharma always seems to be guiding his son from the stands in every match. What makes Abhishek a lethal batsman in his golf swing, which he has successfully inculcated in cricket.
Abhishek has been in the circuit since 2018, but was never considered as a lethal batsman before. He played small cameos every now and then but nothing convincing to get an India call. But, things changed for him when he came under the wings of Yuvraj Singh, one of the best allrounders produced by India. Yuvraj worked on his fitness, his batting, mental toughness and now we are just fitnessing the fruits of all the hard work the duo has put in in their

Sai Sudharsan
While T20 batting is all about improvisation and power hitting, Sai Sudharsan is writing his own script by keeping alive the technique in the shortest format. He is not a player with the strongest punch, or a player who can smash a 90m six, but still is a contender of Orange Cap as he is showcasing some classical cricketing shots with his elegance and timing. He takes his time, toys the field and accelerates just when the situation demands. He is one of the smartest cricketers as he knows how to calculate the game according to the situations. He is the backbone of his side Gujarat Titans. While Shubhman Gill and Jos Butler attack from one end, Sudharsan provides the calm under all the chaos!
Budding cricketers should follow Sai’s batting as he has the calibre to dominate across all formats with his class and charisma. In times when cricket followers are loving the intense power hitting, Sai is a testament of how a player can be vital for the team, even without those glorified shots! His strike rate wouldn’t be very impressive but his average surely is! In the 2025 edition, his average scaled to 54.21, which displays his consistency as a player!

Priyansh Arya
Playing only his second season, the 24 year old Priyansh Arya has already earned plenty of praise for his explosive batting in powerplay. He along with his partner, Prabhsimran Singh, have given many great starts to the team as he has accelerated at a good rate during the initial overs. He lays the perfect foundation in each match and then, the middle order batsmen carry the same momentum. His strike rate has been impressive but the young lad is not a contender of Orange Cap as he is standing at 17th spot. His stats reveal how he has learnt from 2025 and how he has improved this season. In the previous edition, he was batting at a strike rate of 179.25 and now it has climbed to 247.83!
Pundits have been praising Arya’s batting for two reasons. One, his strike rate and second, his technique. His shoulders, hands and body perfectly follow each other and that allows him to be in great alignment to elevate the ball. Apart from that, he makes minimal movement with his feet and just uses his arms, which keeps his head still and body in control. Arya has been training under close eye of Dronacharya Awardee Sanjay Bhardwaj sir, who has also coached Gautam Gambhir. Bhardwaj sir praises Arya’s consistency and his mental toughness. He lauds how the youngster has grabbed the opportunity that was extended towards him. He is clearly a star in making!

Ishan Kishan
Ishan Kishan too, is enjoying the hot streak of his career. First a triumph in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, then a comeback in the Indian team and later a World Cup win, fortunes have really changed for Ishan Kishan. Currently he is captaining his side, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and is proving to be an asset to the team, both as a leader and as a batsman. Currently standing at number 10 in most runs scored chart, Kishan is making a statement of his own. The 2.0 version is a smarter cricketer, who plays attacking shots no matter what the situation is. He shows no mercy and goes from the first ball he faces. His shot selection has also improved and we can see how he has changed himself to unleash the second version.

Conclusion
The 2026 edition is halfway and left handed batters have emerged as a strong force. Apart from the above-mentioned players, other players who have shown a significant impact are Travis Head, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh, David Miller and Nitish Rana. Hence, be it top order, or middle order, it’s the lefties who are redefining season 2026! These players bring a lot of tactical advantage as it is always difficult to tackle the left- right combination. The constant adjustment to field placements and bowling plans is another thing. And hence, these players are making the most of the tactical edge they get! Maybe this year’s orange cap would be grabbed by some lefty only!
