Scenic cricket: exploring the most picturesque grounds in the world

There are numerous cricket stadiums in the world. Each and every ground has its own significance as each one of them is unique in its own way. Unlike other sports, the dimensions of the playing field are not exactly the same in every ground. While some are compact with limited seating capacity, others are humongous with large capacity. While some grounds are located in the heart of the city, others are located in the outskirts. Hence, each ground has it’s own beauty. 

We have already discussed the largest and the smallest ground in the world. But today, in this article by ZAP cricket, we will share a list of top most picturesque grounds in the world. Playing in these grounds is always a mesmerizing experience as one is truly in nature’s lap. Players have a vivid experience here as they enjoy playing a lot in these venues. 

HPCA Stadium, Dharamshala, India

This HPCA Stadium is located in the state of Himachal Pradesh and was established in 2003. It is one the most beautiful grounds in India as it is located near the Himalayas, situated at an altitude of 1,457m above sea level. While batting, bowling and fielding, one can see mountains covered with snow. The ground has the capacity of 21,200 spectators. Regular domestic and international matches are held here.It is home ground for the Himachal Pradesh state team, both men and women. Moreover, IPL franchise- Punjab Kings also plays regular matches here. 

First match that was held in HPCA Stadium was on 27th January, 2013 vs England.

Lord’s Cricket Ground, UK

The Lord’s Cricket Ground is also called the Mecca of cricket. It is a dream of every cricketer to play a match at this majestic venue. The ground has a strong historical background as it was named after its founder- Thomas Lord. It is owned by Marylebone Cricket Club and international matches are regularly conducted here. The capacity of this ground is 31,100 spectators. It is the home of Middlesex Cricket Club and is widely referred to as the Home of Cricket. What makes this ground special is its architecture. The greenery of grass perfectly blends with clear blue skies and hence it is a blessing to even witness a cricket match here.

Newlands Cricket Ground, Cape Town, South Africa

The Newlands Cricket Ground is located in the heart of Cape Town. It has the Capacity of 25,000 spectators and was established in 1888.The ground has terrific views as it is surrounded by Table Mountain and Devil’s peak. Clear skies and lush green grass combined with mountains make this ground a treat to eyes. That is why, this is one of the most admired cricket grounds in the world.

Queen’s Park Oval, Trinidad and Tobago

It is the second largest capacity ground in the West Indies as it had the capacity of 20,000 spectators. This ground has hosted most Test matches for the West Indies.It is privately owned by Queen’s Park Cricket Club.This venue too, lies in the laps of mountains and hence it gives a pleasure to anyone playing there. The ends here are: Brian Lara Pavillion end and Media Centre end. The first match that was played here was from 1 to 6 February, 1930 against England.

Hagley Oval, Christchurch, New Zealand 

It is a small ground with seating capacity limited to 9,000. The ground was established in 1851 and the first international match was played by the women's team from 7-10 March, 1969 against England. This ground too has a lot of historical reference as it is regarded as the first stadium in the country.
