All Round Excellence: Story of Deepti Sharma

A true all rounder is someone who equally contributes in all the three departments: batting, bowling and fielding. They are the ones who hold the ability to change the course of the game at any stage. For instance, a notable all rounder in the Men's cricket team is Ravindra Jadeja. Her name is Deepti Sharma and she is a legend of the game. She is a left handed batsman and right arm off spinner. Early life and domestic cricket of Deepti Sharma 

Born on 24 August, 1997, Deepti played domestic cricket for Uttar Pradesh and Bengal. Her interest in cricket started when she was only 9. She was inspired by her brother Sumit Sharma, who also played cricket. Later, her mentor Hemlata Kala, who is also the national selector, guided her in becoming the player she is now. 

International career of Deepti Sharma 

Deepti made her ODI debut on 28 November, 2014 vs South Africa, T20I debut on 31 January, 2016 vs Australia and Test debut on 16 June, 2021 vs England. She holds the world record of scoring 320 runs in opening partnership with Poonam Raut. Over the years, her game has evolved to great extents. From being a rookie off spin to becoming a polished reliable senior player, she has come a long way. Overall, she has played 171 international matches across all formats, scoring 2,132 runs and taking 196 wickets. 

Her role in the Indian team is quite versatile. She is a reliable option with both bat and ball for which she is highly regarded. Plus, over the years, she has played plenty of matches in different parts of the world, hence, her experience is always an asset for the team.

Deepti Sharma in 2025-26: World Cup Player of the Tournament

Deepti's career reached a new level during India's historic 2025 Women's Cricket World Cup triumph. She finished as the tournament's leading wicket-taker with 22 wickets and scored 215 runs.

In the final against South Africa, she made 58 and then took 5/39 as India won by 52 runs to lift their first Women's ODI World Cup. Deepti became the first player to score more than 200 runs and take more than 20 wickets in a single Women's World Cup edition and was named Player of the Tournament.

She carried that form into 2026, recording T20I five-wicket hauls against South Africa and Pakistan, including 5/10 against Pakistan at the Women's T20 World Cup.

• Felicitated with Arjuna Award in 2020
• Won silver medal in 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games 

Deepti Sharma in Franchise Cricket

Deepti has been central to UP Warriorz since the WPL began. At the 2026 mega auction, UPW secured her for INR 3.20 crore using the Right to Match mechanism.

She continued with UP Warriorz in 2026 and was retained ahead of WPL 2027. Her franchise career has also included the WBBL and The Hundred.
