Breaking boundaries: Harmanpreet Kaur

Harmanpreet Kaur is the captain of Indian Women’s Cricket Team. She played her domestic cricket for Punjab and Railways. Now, she plays regular cricket for India and plays a lot of franchise cricket. 
she plays in WBBL, WPL and The Hundred. 
following are major achievements in her cricket career so far: 

  • Only Indian woman cricketer to score more than 3,000 runs in Women’s ODI
  • First Indian cricketer to play in 100 T20Is
  • Arjuna award in 2017 
  • Asia cup winner in 2012, 2016 and 2022
  • Gold medal in 2022 Asian games 
  • Silver medal in 2022 commonwealth games 
  • Wisden cricketer of the Year in 2023
  • First Indian woman to score a century in T20Is.

Caribbean Premier League

Caribbean Premier League is a domestic tournament conducted by West Indies Cricket Board to promote T20 cricket. It is basically franchise cricket and it greatly benefits players and support staff. 
along with CPL, the board has also introduced 6ixty which is an even shorter version. Basically under this format, both teams have 10 overs innings. The rules are quite different from a regular cricket game.

Mumbai Indians Women: Champions of WPL 2023

Mumbai Indians team also participates in WPL like men’s team does in IPL. The women’s team is led by Harmanpreet Kaur. The head coach is Charlotte Edwards and the mentor is Jhulan Goswami. 
The team won the inaugural season of WPL and they carved their names in history. 
the team has a good combination of domestic and foreign players.

Woman of steel: Sophie Devine

Sophie Devine is player who plays cricket for New Zealand. She is a right arm pace bowler and a right handed batter, she made her International debut at the age of 17 and since then, she has never looked back. 
she led her side in 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup and even grabbed their maiden title. 
Apart from International cricket, she is a regular member in franchise cricket as well. She played for RCB in WPL, Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred and Perth Scorchers in WBBL.

From grassroots to glory: Impact of Women’s Big Bash League

Women’s Big Bash League is the franchise cricket tournament held annually in Australia. Best players from all over the world participate in this tournament. It started in 2014-15 and since then it has successfully upgraded the level of cricket in the country. 
The most successful teams in the tournament are 

Sydney Sixers, Adelaide Strikers, Brisbane Heat and Sydney Thunder. All these teams have won two title each. 
The 2024-25 edition will start from 27th October and the opening match will be played at Adelaide Oval.
