On April 2, 2011, India won the ICC Cricket World Cup at the Wankhede Stadium, marked by an iconic Dhoni six. The stadium has a rich history, originally replacing the Brabourne Stadium. It underwent renovations in 2010, increasing seating capacity to 32,000 and enhancing amenities. The pitch favors batting, with dew affecting second innings. The Mumbai Cricket Association governs cricket in the region and has a strong First-Class record. Notable moments at Wankhede include England's 2002 comeback, India's 2004 Test victory over Australia, and Virat Kohli's 2016 double century. 

Suresh Raina was one of India's most talented players known for his explosive batting, exceptional fielding, part time bowling and has been a vital asset to Indian cricket and Chennai Super Kings. He played in all three formats of the game Tests, ODIs, and T20Is, playing a pivotal role in India's 2011 World Cup win. He even captained India in various series. He was a CSK and IPL Legends, also being named as the Mr. IPL. Chennai fans used to call him Chinna Thala or their younger brother. He retired from all forms of cricket in 2022. His remarkable records include being the first Indian to score 6000 and 8000 runs in Twenty20 cricket, the first to score centuries in International T20 and Champions League Twenty20, and holding the record for most catches in the IPL.

AB de Villiers, known as the Superman of cricket, had remarkable skills, excelling in hitting sixes and fielding. His struggle was winning major trophies with South Africa and the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Born in 1984, he made his mark in cricket, debuting in 2004. ABD achieved feats like the fastest ODI century and retired from international and IPL cricket, leaving behind numerous records. Notable achievements include a double century in Tests, wicketkeeping catches record, and ICC ODI Player of the Year titles. He authored "AB: The Autobiography," aiming for South Africa to win an ICC trophy. He had eye surgery in 2017 for Keratoconus and wore jersey number 17. In IPL 2021, he scored 313 runs for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
